It’s travel time! What do you do about traveling with jewelry? Read on for some handy tips.
Our first tip is travel light. Do not take your most expensive jewelry on a trip unless you are going to a wedding or another formal function. In that case, never pack it into your checked baggage. Always carry it in your pocketbook or carry on. If you are staying in a hotel, put it into the hotel safe, and put a reminder in your phone to take it when you check out.
If you have a wedding or engagement ring that you always wear, wear it. Diamond Stud earrings that you wear every day? OK. But wear them all the time. Otherwise wear as little jewelry as possible. Pick a dressed down watch, bracelet and necklace and wear them throughout the trip. The people you see will not care if you change your jewelry every day, or are draped in diamonds. You will probably never see them again. Do not take your jewelry off and leave it somewhere in the hotel room unless there is a safe. If you must leave it for swimming or some other dressed down activity, put it into the safe either in your room or in the hotel safe deposit boxes. If you must, carry it with you in an unidentifiable cosmetic case or other plain bag inside your pocketbook or backpack. Never leave it in your suitcase in your room.
Make sure you know where the appraisals are. It is also a good idea to take pictures of the more expensive jewelry.
